CFO starting consulting businesses |Consultant CF

CFOs are starting consulting businesses (expired link) at a rapid pace, according to a Robert Half Survey reported by the Courier Post. Of the 1400 CFOs surveyed, one in three said they favoured the flexible schedule consulting offers. About one in four liked the pay rate.

The article didn’t mention it, but many CFOs may have other reasons to start consulting businesses. Many are nearing retirement age, having reached or nearly reached the pinnacle of their careers. By starting their own consulting businesses, they can work from home, schedule work around family and vacation time, and supplement retirement income. As masters of their domains, they can enjoy all the benefits of becoming consultants. They also tend to have enough contacts to find clients and the business sense to go after blue sky profits when they get into consulting.
