Paying off debt is a great way to use the money you make as a consultant. Gary (who asked that I not reveal his last name or location) wrote to say that he paid off $34,000 in credit card debt via consulting. It took him almost five years, but he was able to dig out from the burden. He made $700 a month by picking up IT contract work on weekends and evenings. By working anywhere from 10 to 15 hours a month, he got rid of his oppressive debt load. He’s been debt free for a year and he now has $8,000 banked to put toward his son’s college fund.
